California Health College (CHC) is a vocational school that offers 12 different programs in the healthcare industry. During the application process, students take a tour on the campus before deciding to enroll. I created a large touchscreen installation to highlight CHC’s interactive lab offerings and job placements.

California Health College needed a new, interactive way to show prospective students CHC’s offerings to boost enrollment. Prospective students usually don't know a lot about the programs and career opportunities before the tour.
Create a microsite that can be shown on large touch screens for on-campus tours and on iPads for remote tours. Break down each program’s course offerings so prospective students can learn about the differences.
I conducted interviews on current students to discover what prompted them to attend CHC. Students often decide to attend CHC after coming in for a tour and seeing the lab in action because they know they’ll be prepared for working in the field. Some students stated hesitations about CHC’s credibility so seeing the accreditations and career opportunities helped alleviate that.
In person training and labs help prepare students for working in the field. I highlighted this on the Coursework Page.
Good job prospects increase enrollment so I added an interactive map with job placements.
Showing accreditations & stats increase CHC’s credibility so I included them on each program page.
Since this microsite would be shown on large wall touchscreens and iPads, I had to ensure that the interactions would work for both setups.
Because the project had a limited budget, I conducted user testing internally with the Gigasavvy Team. I wanted to make sure the tour guides would be able to switch between the programs easily and find the Placements Map to show where alumni had gotten jobs after graduating.
I prioritized the program accessibility by listing 'Programs' on the menu first. This confused users since 'Home' is usually listed first.
Tapping on 'Programs' shows a list of all the programs.
I broke down each program into 4 sections to make the information easily digestible.
The overall look and feel is very sleek with a touch of tech to help highlight CHC’s advanced lab offerings. Because the client was open to moving away from their usual style, I was given free rein to create a different mood but still incorporated their brand colors and fonts for consistency. I chose to include dark overlays and subtle animations to help bring the designs to life on a large screen.
This was my first project for large touchscreens so it was fun for me to think about how the user experience needed to change to accommodate that. In the future, I would like to conduct some user testing on the tour guides to ensure that the overall navigation and Placements Map filter work well on both the iPad and large screen version. Designing this has opened up my UX possibilities and I hope to create more immersive experiences in the future.
